Disney has updated the My Disney Experience website to allow guests to opt out of receiving a new Magic Band every time they make a new reservation to stay at a Walt Disney World resort. This has been a big complaint for those who make frequent trips to the parks such as DVC members. Hit the jump to find out more about the changes.
In order to opt out you’ll need to use the My Disney Experience website. The app doesn’t allow for you to opt out yet. You’ll also need to have a Magic Band that is less than a year old. Unfortunately you can’t set a universal opt out so you’ll need to opt out each time you make a new reservation.
I’ve heard that some guests have shown up to their hotel will a bag full of Magic Bands not knowing which are the most current and active ones. So this change is being applauded by guests and cast members alike! I really liked Magic Bands when I used them during the testing phase of My Magic+. The only issue we experienced was the CM who checked us in didn’t associate our credit cards to the bands correctly, but that wasn’t too big of a deal. I think that the Magic Bands days are already number even though they are still a newer addition to Walt Disney World. Smart watches & NFC enabled phones can do all the same things that a Magic Band can and much more. Disney already accepts NFC payment with Apple Pay in the parks, so the switch wouldn’t be that hard on the technical side. I love Magic Bands, and I hope to get the full color set before Disney switches to a different system so I won’t be opting out anytime soon!
I’ll be traveling to Walt Disney World in the fall so expect lots of coverage, videos & reviews on all things Wall Disney World including Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! If there’s something specific you’d like to see covered here on the site please leave a comment below or get in touch on Twitter.
