Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights No More After 2015

Well, we saw this one coming but I just didn’t want to believe it was so. Disney has announced that 2015 will be the last year for the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is a huge blow in my opinion. Hit the jump for details on the last year of the lights & what you can expect to see in it’s place in the coming years.

This year will be the 20th year that the Osborne lights have been at Walt Disney World. It was common knowledge that the contract between the Osborne family & Disney was set to expire at the end of this year. I was hopeful that the contract would be renewed, but that was clearly just a dream.

Major renovation will be taking place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios starting in 2016 with the addition of both Star Wars Land & Toy Story Land. Hollywood Studios is already a small park & Disney needs to put these two lands somewhere! The current rumor is that Streets of America will be replaced by Star Wars Land. It’s unclear if the whole area will be swallowed up, or if a bit will remain. My guess would be that Streets of America is on its death bed. Its close proximity to both Star Tours & the Pixar area make it a prime candidate to be replaced by the two new additions.

There is a rumor circulating around that Disney will create something similar to the Osborne Lights in another park or another part of DHS. This is purely a rumor though. I’d love to see something similar at Epcot since it seems to be left out of the Christmas night time spirit.

You can catch the last year of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights from November 6th – January 3rd 2016. I’ve actually never had the chance to see the lights in person. With this being the last year I’m looking into the possibility of returning to Disney World simply for this event. So there may be tons of Christmas content in addition to the Fall content headed to Behind Magic!
