Over the weekend Disney confirmed a long running rumor that Marvel would finally have a presence in the domestic Disney theme parks. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be coming to California Adventure in Summer of 2017. Disney will be revamping the Hollywood Tower of Terror ride currently based on the Twilight Zone to instead be Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Hit the jump for more details on the new attraction and what you can expect while in the ride queue.
This Guardians of the Galaxy rumor seemed to come about during the last D23 Expo. At the time I didn’t really think it was true. I didn’t think that Disney would close an iconic attraction like Tower of Terror during construction of Star Wars Land when a ton of attractions are already closed in both Disneyland Resort and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. As of right now the Guardians ride is only coming to California Adventure but I’m sure it’ll make the jump to the East coast once Star Wars Land is finished at Walt Disney World. The Twilight Zone version will be closing early next year so if you’re a die hard fan make sure to stop by before then!
I’m sure it’ll end up being a very popular attraction, but it just doesn’t feel like Guardians of the Galaxy to me. This just seems like a quick (and cheap) way to get some Marvel properties into the parks. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! will be opening at Disney’s California Adventure in Summer 2017.
Will you be sad to see the Tower of Terror go? Do you have to make one last trip to Disney’s California Adventure for the attraction? Leave your comments below or as always, feel free to reach out on Twitter or Facebook!
