MagicBands have been at Walt Disney World since 2013 and have been widely liked by guests. Disney decided it was time for a face lift and re-worked the MagicBand. The new bands look a little different than the old MagicBands but open the door to be worn on lanyards, key chains and more. Hit the jump for more details on the new MagicBand and the accessories you can expect to see in the parks.
The new design isn’t too radical of a change but still allows for some flexibility for guests who just hate having something on their wrists. It also will allow Disney to sell even more accessories, so I’m sure that was one of the big considerations for this new design. The “Mickey” in the middle of the band can now pop out. You can buy holders for lanyards and keychains in the parks. I personally prefer to have it on my wrist because it’s always easily accessible. During my trip to Disneyland I hated having to store my ticket safely in my wallet and get it out every time we needed it for a FastPass or park hopping. I get so used to wearing a MagicBand during trips that when I go home I feel like I’m forgetting something when I leave the house without it.

It figures that as soon as I spend the money on a custom MagicBand, Disney releases a new design. I have always thought retail MagicBands are a bad buy, especially if you’re staying on property. You get a free MagicBand so why would you pay for another one! Well, even though I have a pretty large collection of bands I decided that since I am now an Annual Passholder I should have an appropriate MagicBand! I’m actually ok with having the old style as I prefer it and think it looks a bit better than the updated versions. I’ll be sure to grab one of these during my next trip to Walt Disney World. I’m just hoping that it’s comfortable to wear as Disney had perfected the materials in the MagicBand greatly over the ones given to guests during the “test” phase of MyMagic+. My newest bands were much more flexible and would fit my wrists better than the original bands. Here’s hoping this new band can do the same thing!
