If you’ve ever walked into a Quick Service restaurant in any of the Walt Disney World theme parks you’ll know they can get quite busy and crowded. Disney is expanding their technology capabilities to hopefully help with that problem. Mobile ordering is on its way to the My Disney Experience app. Hit the jump for more details on when you’ll be able to use it in the parks.
Disney is doing a structured roll-out of this new feature. They’re starting with Satu’li Canteen in Pandora – The World of Avatar and plan to expand it to Pizzafari, Flame Tree Barbecue and Restaurantosaurus later this Summer. All four of these restaurants are in Animal Kingdom and will likely be very crowded due to Pandora’s opening in a few days. This will give Disney a good test bed to fix any kinks in the system before bringing it to the other three Disney World Parks.
Guests using Mobile Ordering will be able to place their order, customize any items they wish and pre-pay using the app. When they arrive at the restaurant you’ll tap a button notifying the kitchen to begin preparing your food. When it’s ready, the app will let you know where to pick it up. This seems like it could be a huge upgrade over the existing system in place at popular Quick Service restaurants. As of right now, mobile ordering is not usable with the Dining Plan. Hopefully Disney adds that feature soon!
