The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World is getting a highly anticipated roller coaster in Tomorrowland. Disney has released some details on the construction of the new attraction and how it will impact some of the other rides in the park. Tron will be built in an area that is currently outside of the park boundaries. Hit the jump for details on what to expect this year during the construction.
The Tron coaster will be built next to Space Mountain and the Tomorrowland Speedway. During the construction period both the Walt Disney World Railroad and Tomorrowland Speedway will be down. The railroad will be down longer and the train will actually be moved to the Main Street station similar to Disneyland’s construction that impacted the railroad. Guests will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the train and Disney mentions there will be photo opportunities so I imagine they’ll have a PhotoPass photographer stationed at the train.
The Tomorrowland Speedway will have a shorter closure than the Walt Disney World Railroad. The track will be reworked to accommodate the new Tron coaster. I hope that Disney takes the time to add more landscaping and themeing to the attraction as I think it’s pretty boring compared to Disneyland’s version. It would also be really cool if they switched to electric vehicles, but that’s purely a wishlist item on my part. It will be odd to walk through tomorrowland without the sounds and smells coming from the speedway.
Disney has no announced exact dates for both closures, but we’ll be sure to post that information as soon as it’s released.
